During my career, I have reported from more than 50 different countries. I never specialized in one topic—I just wrote stories that grabbed my interest, no matter the subject. I interviewed a man who spent 40 years running from the law. I spoke at length with three young boys who were horrifically lost at sea. I wrote about an eccentric genius who believes that a few medical breakthroughs will allow humans to defeat death.
In the meantime, I married and had three children, in quick succession, a girl born ina boy inanother girl in My home in Montana was suddenly filled, day and night, with activity and noise. One morning inI read about a man who had fled the world at age 20, lived alone in a tent in central Maine, and apparently spent 10, consecutive days completely silent.
Instantly curious, I wrote a letter to this man, named Christopher Knight, and he proceeded to share with me an incredible and moving story. This thief fascinated me for several reasons. He also never resorted to violence; his thefts were all daytime affairs of refined stealth. Mostly, though, I was intrigued by Breitwieser because he seemed to steal for the love of art, not for money.

When Norwegian novelist Jon Fosse won inI was daunted by the size of "Septology," his best-known book, so I went instead for this page novella. I loved it -- the book was ideally mysterious and creepy and really held a feeling of dread and ambiguity all the way through the slim volume. A wondrous reading experience. I remain daunted by "Septology" maybe one day I'll read it but stunned by this odd and fantastically uncategorizable work.

It both grabbed me by the brain and insisted to be read, and also repulsed me totally. If this type of reading tug-of-war appeals to you, or if you liked her previous books especially "My Year of Rest and Relaxation"then don't hesitate to pick this up. This book will change you, but perhaps not in an optimistic or healthy way. Instead, he encountered teenagers working for meager wages in difficult conditions, [ 4 ] leading him to create the composite character to fit the narrative he had proposed.
After his dismissal from The New York TimesFinkel learned that Christian Longoan Oregon man who had murdered his wife and three children in Decemberhad used "Michael Finkel" as an alias during his several weeks as a fugitive. After Longo's capture the next month, Finkel communicated with him. Finkel says that, before the trial, Longo had hoped the journalist would bring out "the real story" to help him win acquittal; after his conviction, Longo gave Finkel interviews admitting his guilt.
Finkel is also the author of The Stranger in the Woods which tells the story of Christopher Thomas Knighta hermit who lived alone in woods in the North Pond area of Maine for 27 years.
