Neil bartlett biography

Neil Bartlett was born in He grew up in Chichester, West Sussex, and now lives in London with his partner of thirty-five years, author and archivist James Gardiner. They appeared together at the first London International Festival of Theatre inand also memorably as support act to the Goth band Bauhaus at the Hammersmith Palais. Other early works were staged at the ICA, the Drill Hall and Battersea Arts Centre, as well as touring to arts centres and the occasional nightclub across the country.

In he worked as a director for Theatre de Complicitehelping to create More Bigger Snacks Nowthe show that won the company the Perrier Award and first brought them to national attention. As they looked at what they thought might be the first crystals of XeF 2the compound exploded, getting shards of glass in the eyes of both men. According to Bartlett, he thought that the compound may have contained water molecules, and he and Rao took off their glasses to get a better look.

They were both taken to the hospital for four weeks, and Bartlett was left with damaged vision in one eye. The last piece of glass from this accident was removed 27 years later.
